About HK Expat Club

Hong Kong at heart. Shenzhen and Macau at your doorstep.
Your Greater Bay Area Guide.

HK Expat Club is an independent guide for the international community in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Whether you just landed and have no idea which neighbourhood to live in, you are three years deep and still discovering hidden dim sum spots, or you are planning your first cross-border day trip to Shenzhen, this is your resource.

We cover the practical stuff nobody tells you (banking, taxes, healthcare, schools), the food and lifestyle content that makes this part of the world hard to leave, and the cross-border trips that turn a regular weekend into something worth talking about.

Why we built this

There are plenty of good expat resources for Hong Kong. But we noticed that a lot of what locals know and love never makes it to the international community. The hidden restaurants, the new shopping malls in Shenzhen, the latest tech stores worth visiting, the boutique hotels in Macau that just opened. That kind of information tends to stay in Chinese-language circles, and we wanted to change that.

HK Expat Club brings you the most local, most up-to-date information we can find. We dig into what is actually happening on the ground right now so you can experience this part of the world the way locals do, not the way a guidebook from five years ago tells you to.

Whether you are an expat, a digital nomad, here on a business trip, or an international traveller passing through, this site helps you live like a local from the moment you arrive.

What we cover

We started with Hong Kong, because that is where most of our readers live. But expat life in this city does not stop at the border. Shenzhen is 15 minutes from Lo Wu. Macau is an hour by ferry. The best weekend plans often involve all three.

Our content now spans:

  • Hong Kong — neighbourhood guides, food, events, housing, schools, healthcare, and everything you need to settle in
  • Shenzhen — day trip guides, food finds, shopping, and practical cross-border tips
  • Macau — weekend getaways, food, and travel guides
  • Pre-arrival and landing guides — for anyone still deciding whether to make the move

Our editorial standards

Every guide, review, and recommendation is based on real experience. We also do our best to verify details like prices, hours, and addresses against official sources and keep articles updated as things change. Great Bay Area move fast, so if you spot anything that needs a refresh, we would genuinely love to hear from you.

Our recommendations are never influenced by advertising. When we link to a product or service, we may earn a small commission, but it never changes what we write. For full details, see our Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.
