Every March, Hong Kong’s streets become a canvas. For the 11th time, HKWalls returns to Central and the surrounding districts to transform blank walls into large-scale public art. Running from 21 to 29 March 2026, the festival’s latest edition brings a notable expansion alongside its signature mural programme: digital artworks displayed on LED screens citywide, giving the festival a presence well beyond the traditional painting route.
International Artists, Local Streets
HKWalls operates on a simple premise. International and local artists are brought together for nine days to paint the walls of Central, SoHo, Sheung Wan, Mid-Levels, and the surrounding lanes. It’s all free to discover. You either stumble across a fresh piece mid-commute, or you map a route and let the murals guide you through the neighbourhood.
This year’s roster covers a wide range of styles. French artist Theo Haggai returns with his signature human figures and outstretched hands arranged into mandala forms. Italian muralist Fabio Petani blends precise geometry with botanical imagery, while Irish artist Asbestos brings guerrilla-influenced work that ranges from darkly humorous to confrontational. On the local side, Hong Kong illustrator Mooncasket brings retro-cute references from 2000s skate culture, and Spanish artist Yubia adds vivid kawaii-influenced colour to the mix.

A New Digital Dimension
The 11th edition introduces a digital art strand running parallel to the live painting programme. Czech animator Ondrej Rakusan, generative artist Seohyo, and multidisciplinary creator Anomalit Kate will present motion-based work on LED screens installed across the city. For a festival rooted in spray paint and brick, it is a significant evolution, putting digital and physical art in direct conversation.
The Youth Mentorship Programme also continues, pairing emerging local artists with visiting international muralists for hands-on studio and street experience throughout the festival week.
PMQ as the Festival Hub
The central venue for HKWalls 2026 is the ground floor courtyard at PMQ, 35 Aberdeen St, Central, open daily from noon to 8pm. The PMQ space anchors the programme with guided mural tours, artist talks, and the Art Battle Kickoff Party on 21 March (6pm to 9pm, tickets via the HKWalls website).
If March is your first time navigating Hong Kong’s festival calendar, HKWalls runs alongside Art Basel Hong Kong, meaning the creative energy in the city this week is at its peak. It is a genuinely good time to explore on foot.
How to See It
All mural walks and the PMQ courtyard hub are free to enter. For the full artist map and any ticketed evening events, check hkwalls.org before heading out. Both Sheung Wan MTR (Exit B) and Central MTR (Exit D2) put you within easy walking distance of the PMQ hub and most of the mural sites.
