What Is SummerFest@Wan Chai?

SummerFest@Wan Chai is a free, government-backed outdoor festival that takes over the Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space every year. The 2026 edition, officially titled SummerFest@Wan Chai: Summer Fun (灣仔夏誌:盛夏SummerFun), runs from 29 May to 4 October 2026, making it one of the longest-running free events in Hong Kong. The International Arts Carnival also runs during the summer months with over 100 family-friendly shows and workshops.
Organised by Serious Staging Limited, a company appointed by the HKSAR Government with over 25 years of experience in large-scale event production, the festival transforms the 13,300-square-metre harbourfront space into a mix of sports zones, pop-up performances, and family-friendly activities. Everything is free, and the venue is pet-friendly, so dogs are welcome too.
This year brings back popular play facilities from 2025 alongside several new additions, giving the 2026 edition a fresh lineup of nine interactive activities.
The Sports Playground: 9 Free Activities

The core of SummerFest is the Sports Playground, open daily throughout the festival. Nine interactive play zones are spread across Areas A and B of the harbourfront space, and all of them are free.
The full lineup for 2026 includes trampolines for bouncing with a harbour backdrop, a cycling zone with bikes available on-site, disc golf targets set up along the waterfront, a basketball court, a golf putting area, hand-powered carts that kids (and adults) can race along a track, giant spinning tops that are surprisingly fun for all ages, a rhythm playland with interactive music stations, and a 3D pin screen wall for creating body impressions.
Most activities suit children aged three and up, though the trampolines, cycling, and disc golf work well for teenagers and adults too. The hand-powered carts and giant spinning tops are new for 2026 and tend to draw the longest lines on weekends.
There is no booking required. Walk in, queue briefly if an activity is popular, and play.

How to Get There
The Wan Chai Harbourfront Event Space is at 3 Hung Hing Road, Wan Chai, next to the Wan Chai Ferry Pier. It sits on the waterfront between the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) and the pier.
By MTR: Take the Island Line or South Island Line to Exhibition Centre Station and use Exit A2. Walk north towards the harbour for about three to five minutes. Follow signs for the Wan Chai Harbourfront or the ferry pier.
By ferry: The Wan Chai Ferry Pier is directly adjacent to the event space, roughly one minute on foot. The Star Ferry runs a route between Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui, which makes SummerFest accessible from the Kowloon side.
By bus: Several bus routes stop along Convention Avenue and Hung Hing Road. Routes serving the HKCEC area include the 25A, 40, and 40M.
Tips for Your Visit

Best time to go: Weekday evenings between 5pm and 8pm are the quietest. Weekend afternoons, especially when a special event is running, get busy. If you want the Sports Playground mostly to yourself, aim for a Tuesday or Wednesday after work.
What to bring: Comfortable shoes are essential since the venue is on open ground. Sunscreen and a hat if you are visiting before sunset. Bring water, as shade is limited in certain areas, though the evening hours are cooler and more comfortable.
Check before you go: Opening hours shift when special events are scheduled. The official programme page is the most reliable source for the latest schedule. Some events are listed as “TBC” for timing, so check back closer to the date.
Dogs welcome: The venue explicitly welcomes pets. Bring a leash and water bowl. The grassy areas near HarbourChill next door are good for a break.
No booking required: All Sports Playground activities are walk-in. For special weekend events, arrive early if you want a good viewing spot for performances.
What Else to Do Nearby
The HarbourChill space is immediately adjacent to SummerFest, with artificial lawns, sheltered seating, and a more relaxed atmosphere. It opened in 2021 and works well as a spot to sit after the playground activities.
The Wan Chai Promenade stretches east from the event space towards Causeway Bay, offering a flat, scenic walk along the harbour. The Golden Bauhinia Square and the HKCEC are a few minutes west.
For food, the Wan Chai neighbourhood inland has dozens of options within a 10-minute walk. The Wan Chai MTR area around Cross Street and Lockhart Road is packed with restaurants. If you are heading to or from Kowloon, the Star Ferry crossing itself is worth the trip for the harbour views.
