The World’s Biggest LEGO Playground Is Taking Shape
Shenzhen is building what will be the largest LEGOLAND resort ever constructed, and the construction progress suggests it is closer to reality than most people think. Located on the Dapeng Peninsula in eastern Shenzhen, LEGOLAND Shenzhen Resort spans 584,000 square metres with a total investment of nearly ¥7 billion. For context, that is roughly three times the size of Hong Kong Disneyland’s original footprint.
Operated by Merlin Entertainments — the same company behind LEGOLAND parks in Denmark, Japan, and the recently opened Shanghai resort — the Shenzhen project broke ground in 2021 and has been progressing steadily. According to construction updates shared on Chinese social media in late 2025, the resort has entered the ride installation phase, with 38 of its 81 planned buildings already topped out and the internal road network 100% complete. The park’s largest single structure, LEGOLAND Creative World (创想世界), has reached full height with roof panels installed.
Three Parks, Three Hotels

What sets this resort apart from other LEGOLAND parks worldwide is its sheer ambition. Rather than a single theme park, the Shenzhen resort brings together three distinct parks: the main LEGOLAND Theme Park with nine themed zones and over 100 interactive rides, a standalone LEGOLAND Water Park with its own set of splash rides and play areas, and a newly revealed LEGOLAND Discovery Park (探索乐园), an indoor-outdoor hybrid attraction that caters to younger children and rainy-day visits.
The accommodation offering is equally large. Three themed hotels will sit within the resort grounds, together providing over 1,000 rooms. Construction updates from mid-2025 identified them by name: Theme Park Hotel (主题乐园酒店), Castle Hotel (城堡酒店), and Treasure Island Hotel (宝藏岛酒店). Each is designed with LEGO-themed rooms and play areas, turning an overnight stay into part of the experience rather than just a place to sleep. For Hong Kong families used to the relatively compact Ocean Park and Disneyland, this resort is clearly designed as a multi-day destination.
Construction Progress and Opening Timeline

An exact opening date has not been officially confirmed, but the evidence increasingly points to 2026. As of December 2025, construction data from on-the-ground observers shows 57 of 81 buildings under active construction and 38 already topped out. Workers on Chinese social media have documented day-and-night shifts, and a local community forum in Xinda (新大) — the neighbourhood next to the resort — discussed the park opening in tandem with the Shenda Intercity Rail line.
The park’s official social media accounts, which had been quiet for months, resumed posting in late 2025 with an update confirming the resort had entered its ride installation phase. That is a significant milestone — it means the structural work is largely done and the focus has shifted to the mechanical and theming stages that come before soft opening.
It is worth noting that some Chinese social media searches also surface the term “深圳乐高乐园停工” (LEGOLAND Shenzhen work stoppage), a reference to earlier construction delays that made headlines in 2023 and 2024. Those delays appear to have been resolved, as the pace of construction from mid-2025 onward has been visibly accelerated in aerial photography.
Getting There from Hong Kong
The Dapeng Peninsula sits on the eastern edge of Shenzhen, which makes it further from the Hong Kong border than the city’s more familiar Luohu and Futian districts. Currently, reaching Dapeng from Hong Kong involves crossing the border and then taking a combination of metro and bus or a taxi ride of around 60 to 90 minutes from Luohu.
That commute is set to change substantially. The Shenda Intercity Rail (深大城际) Dapeng Branch Line will include a station called Xinda (新大站) positioned right next to the resort entrance. Once operational — also expected in 2026 — visitors will be able to ride directly from central Shenzhen to the park’s doorstep. For Hong Kong families, the most practical route will likely be to cross at Futian Port, take Metro Line 4 or 14 to connect with the intercity rail, and arrive at the park without needing a car.
The resort’s address is Xinda Road, Dapeng New District, Shenzhen (深圳市大鹏新区新大路). Ticket prices have not been announced, but for reference, LEGOLAND Shanghai launched in 2025 with day passes starting at around ¥399 per person. Shenzhen pricing is expected to be in a similar range.
